Features: Spring Steel, Grained Blade, Straight Back, No Nib, Beech Handle, Four Brass Improved Screws, one Embossed. E. Andrew's Patented Saw Handle (see below).

The P35 is another interesting saw featuring a handle patented by Emanuel Andrews (Pat 159150& re10135). The handle is slit further back than usual, through the hand-hold and almost to the horns. The blade is specially cut and sandwiched between the halves of the handle. The P35's handle is beech. I have only seen a few examples of the Andrews patent saws. The Andrews patent saws appear in the 1884 catalog, but not in the 1895 National Saw Company. From this we can infer that these saws were made for only a short period of time starting from as early as 1882 with production ending no later than 1895. The blade is clearly etched with two patent dates: Jany 25, 1874 (Pat #159140) and Re-Issued June 10, 1882 (Pat# re10135).

Updated 6/13/2011 I recently received a message from Mark Kuzee, a fellow saw collector. Mark recently found a P-35 saw in incredible condition and was nice enough to share some photos with me. His saw is in fantastic condition with a bright, clear etch and wonderful handle. The four photos below are courtesy of Mark Kuzee.

Here's a picture of the saw plate from an Andrew's patent handsaw produced by Peace. Notice the intricate detail of the cutout to conform to the handle's shape.
