Features: Spring Steel Blade, Straight Back, No Nib, Rosewood Handle, Polished Edges, Four Brass Improved Screws, one Embossed. E. Andrew's Patented Saw Handle (see below).

The P45 is an interesting saw featuring a handle patented by Emanuel Andrews (Pat 159150& re10135). The handle is slit further back than usual, almost to the horns. The blade is specially cut and sandwiched between the halves of the handle. The handle on this P45 is rosewood. I have only seen a few examples of the Andrews patent saws, and all were the model P45. The Andrews patent saws appear in the 1884 catalog, but not in the 1895 National Saw Company. From this we can infer that these saws were made for only a short period of time starting from as early as 1882 with production ending no later than 1895. The blade is clearly etched with two patent dates: Jany 25, 1874 (Pat #159140) and Re-Issued June 10, 1882 (Pat# re10135).

Here's a picture of the blade from an Andrew's patent handsaw produced by Peace. Notice the intricate detail of the cutout to conform to the handle's shape.
