Features: Spring Steel Blade, Straight Back, No Nib, Rosewood Handle, Polished Edges, Four Brass Improved Screws, one Embossed. E. Endrew's Patented Saw Handle (see below).
The P45 is an interesting saw featuring a handle patented by Emanuel Andrews (Pat 159150 & re10135). The handle
is slit further back than usual, almost to the horns. The blade is specially cut and sandwiched between the halves of the handle.
The handle on this example appears to be rosewood or some other dense hardwood. I have only seen one example of the P45. It doesn't appear in any catalogs I've seen. The blade is clearly etched with two patent dates: Jany 25, 1874 (Pat #159140) and Re-Issued June 10, 1882 (Pat# re10135). |
